Taxes go mobile

The ATO has taken the jump forward with technology and recently announced improved offering of services to make lodging tax returns easier and more convenient.

Amongst the improved offering is a mobile app, ATO Tax 2013, which will be available on both Apple and Android platforms and will allow users to lodge their returns on the go. Additionally, the announcement that e-tax will be available to download for Mac will be a relief for manyusers as they will no longer be constricted to Windows based PCs.

Tax Commissioner Chris Jordan said the changes would improve the services offered to the community and explained, "Doing business on mobile devices and online is nothing new and it's what the community expects. That's why we've focused on delivering a mobile app, digital magazine and an improved website to help people this tax time."

The new ATO website discussed by Mr. Jordan has refreshed its look to make it easier for users to access information and manage their online tax and super information. In addition to this, the ATO has also released Taxtime magazine, a digital publication that will be available to download on both the Apple and Goggle app stores and will provide an interactive online alternative to paper tax return instructions.

"These products mean all the information people need to complete their tax return is at their fingertips. Instead of having to wade through a lot of written information, links to practical YouTube videos will help speed things up and ease the burden," said Mr Jordan.

Overall, the announcement highlights a much more user friendly experience for businesses and tax payers confident enough to lodge tax returns by themselves online.

"We'll continue to build on these services to deliver more contemporary services in a form the community expects,"Mr. Jordan added.
