RBA lifts interest rates to 4 percent 02 March, 2010
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has lifted the official interest rate by 25 basis points to 4 percent today. This is the first rise in the New Year after three consecutive rate rises in the last three months of 2009.

Fraud cases have doubled in the last six months, according to new figures from KPMG. The research reveals the total value of fraud cases during the 2009 calendar year reached $317 million, up from $221 million in 2008. The average case involved $216 million.

The number of businesses and individuals getting into financial strife rose in the first nine months of 2009 however, business related personal bankruptcies declined over this period. Business failures rose by 12 percent on 2008 and 28 percent on 2007 figures, while personal bankruptcies increased by seven and ten percent respectively.
