Gary Gray named new small business minister

Western Australian MP Gary Gray is now the sixth federal small business minister following Chris Bowen's resignation last week.

Previously the Special Minister of State and Minister for the Public Service and Integrity, Mr Gray will also assume the portfolios of Resources and Energy, and Tourism. He is also the Federal Member for Brand. Mark Dreyfus takes over Mr Gray's existing portfolios.

Before entering Parliament in 2007, Mr Gray worked for oil and gas company Woodside and before that, the West Australian Institute for Medical Research.

In a press conference held on Monday, PM Julia Gillard said Mr Gray brought personal knowledge and experience to the Resources role, coming from a senior resources executive position.

"He has been a tireless advocate for business in his own community and across the state of Western Australia and he will bring that sense of purpose to promoting the interests of the tourism sector and small business," she said.
