One in four personal insolvencies are business-related

New insolvency statistics reveal that one in four bankruptcies in the December quarter 2012 were business-related.

According to the Insolvency Trustee Service of Australia (ITSA), there were 1,383 personal insolvencies linked to business interests, with 4,097 personal insolvencies unrelated to business.

Most business-related insolvencies occurred in New South Wales and Queensland, which accounted for 23 per cent and 28 per cent of total insolvencies in each respective state. The states with the least business-linked bankruptcies were the Northern Territory and the ACT with figures hovering at the 20 per cent mark.

ITSA data also revealed that for the last quarter of the year, the number of debtors totalled more than 8,000, out of which one in five were business-related.
